Embedding Power BI report to WordPress, filtering
Hello,
I need to embed a report in WordPress. Is there a functionality when a user can share their filtered report with another user? Meaning a user comes to the WordPress site, makes the filterings and gets a link to directly that view?
If there is can it be done with publish to web option, or is embedded needed?
Is embedded version doable in WordPress, probably with some plugin?
Best regards.
Hi NoviceUser,
Yes in the Power BI Embedded the viewers do not need to sign in. The embed token handles the access so the report opens directly and the users can see it without any login.

Excellent thank you!

Hi NoviceUser ,
Yes, you can share a filtered view of a Power BI report with another user, but not via Publish to web. Publish to web is public and does not support per-user filters, authentication, or secure sharing.
To let a user land on a specific filtered view, you typically need to use Power BI Embedded (or Power BI Service with the report shared to an authenticated user) and construct a URL with filter parameters. Then embed that in WordPress using an iframe or a dedicated plugin.
In WordPress, you’ll want an approach that preserves authentication (so the recipient sees the same data they’re allowed to see) and the filter state in the link. This generally means using Power BI Embedded or the “Share” link in Power BI Service plus share permissions, not Publish to Web.
Details and approachWhy Publish to Web isn’t suitable for filtered views
Publish to Web creates a public link and exposes the entire report to anyone who has the link, with no authentication and no row-level security (RLS) guarantees.
It also doesn’t reliably preserve per-user filters or secure sharing. Any embedded link from Publish to Web cannot enforce user permissions or filter states for a specific recipient.
Preferred approach: Power BI Embedded (or secure sharing via Power BI Service)Use Case: Power BI Embedded (App/Portal model)
Features:
Authenticated embedding: users authenticate via your app (or via AAD) and you can enforce RLS.
Deep-linking with filters: you can construct URLs that apply default filters or slicers when the report loads.
Per-user views: you can tailor the experience for each user, and track/secure access.Workflow:
You host the report in the Power BI service and use a service principal or user tokens to render the report in your app/portal.
Build the link: https://app.powerbi.com/reportEmbed?reportId={reportId}&groupId={workspaceId}&filter=Table/Field eq 'Value'
In your WordPress site, you would embed the report in an iframe with the needed authentication flow handled by your app (or use the Power BI JavaScript API to set filters after load).https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/javascript/api/overview/powerbi/enable-persistent-filters
WordPress integration:
Build a small middleware page (in a separate app or a WordPress page template) that handles Azure AD authentication and serves the embedded report, or
Use a WordPress plugin that supports secure embedding. Please mark this post as solution if it helps you. Appreciate Kudos.

Hello,
I have more questions about the WordPress, which would be better, using a ready made plugin or making own one?

Hello,
Sorry for the late response and thank you for your responses so far. In this situation, I do not need the users to be signed in as the data and report will be public. The main concerns are about the WordPress platform and can a pre filtered report be shared via a link.
Will the embed version be in conflict in this situation as the users are not logged in?- v-achippa

Hi NoviceUser,
Based on your requirement, since the report is public and you don’t want to sign in:
Publish to web works for showing the report in WordPress, but it does not support sharing a filtered view by link. If you want users to apply filters and then share that exact view, you will need to use Power BI Embedded. This allows public viewing and supports links with filters. Thanks and regards,

Hello,
Thank you for your answer. So I am assuming the public viewing means that the embedding does not require to be signed in?
