Embedded Analytics using Premium Capacity

Hello dear members.

I’m a bit confused about the capacity requirements for embedded analytics. My company has purchased a Premium capacity (P1), and we’ve been discussing providing external users with access to Power BI reports using embedded analytics. We plan to create a dedicated website for this purpose. Is it possible to implement this using our existing Premium capacity, or would we need to purchase an Embedded capacity instead?

Also, does Premium capacity allow free access for external users, and are there any limitations to the functionality we should be aware of?

Thank you so much

Are you sure you have premium capacity and it's not premium per user? Premium capacity has it all. Maybe they recommended that because premium won't be available for purchasing. You can only have powerbi embedded or Fabric. Unless you want to just embedd for internal use with just microsoft login, when you embed for customers, you can use them all. Screenshot of microsoft dosc:

You clearly see that Premium Capacity (P) and Fabric (F) can do what Power Embedded (A) do and more.

    I hope that helps

  • Hi. Embedding Power Bi making the web app owning the login is developer feature that can be built with any dedicated capacity license. You can use PowerBi Embedded, Power Bi Premium Capacity or Fabric Capacity.

You can share your web app with any user as long as the reports embedded are hosted in the dedicated capacity.

There are SaaS that already do that like pibi.cloud to prevent companies on developing their own.

    I hope that helps,

Thank you so much ibarrau for your reply. If I’ve understood correctly, since I already have a Premium capacity, I don’t need an Embedded capacity to embed my report into a portal or website and grant free access to external users. Is that correct?

Yes. Exactly. With premium capacity can already embedd without purchasing a power bi embedding.

    Hi Dimitris_Kats ,

Thank you for your question. Also thanks ibarrau for your valuable insights.

Since your company already has a Power BI Premium (P1) capacity, you can embed Power BI reports into an external application and allow external users to access the content without requiring Power BI licenses.

However, if your only requirement is embedding, and you do not need additional features such as AI capabilities, paginated reports, or enterprise BI features, then Power BI Embedded (A SKUs) would be a more cost-effective choice.

Microsoft’s official documentation confirms that both Premium and Embedded support embedding scenarios, but the best choice depends on your specific needs. You can refer to the following resources for more details:
