Dataflow using folder connection for non gateway admin

I wonder if a user who is not the admin of the on-premise data gateway can create a dataflow using an existing folder connection ?

after selecting the on-premise gateway the user needs to enter credential to be used. By default PowerBI display  username : [encrypted]  , if we keep it like that the refresh failed stating file error.  ( The same works when refreshing the dataset thru the service )

If we change the encrypted by the login of the user then we got an error :  only admin of an enterprise gateway can create dataconnection.

Thanks for your help

Eric

I have tested it again, it works well. I could create a dataflow in another account.

Please contact the admin of the gateway to check it.

    hi  Anonymous

    Please refer to this document:

Configuring an Enterprise Gateway for use with dataflows

To create a dataflow using a gateway, the user must be the Enterprise Gateway’s administrator, or the administrator must have shared the datasource they are planning to use with the user.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-dataflows-on-premises-gateways

That means the gateway admin add you as a user in the datasource in manage gateway.

      Hi Lin,

Thanks for your reply. And Yes the users is added in the list of users for that datasource. We have confirmed because he can refresh the same as a dataset in powerBI service.

The challenge is that we talk here about a folder connection.

When the dataflow is created user needs to configure the connection with that button : Configure connection

then appear the below windows :  and here if we don't change anything which username is used ? the one of the person creating the dataflow ? or the login which is stored in the existing dataconnection ?

Anyway if we keep that unchanged then the dataflow fails with an error on the file .

So we come back and try to change an put the windows login of the user  and then come that error :

and in the above screen if I'm the admin of the gateway no problem.....

      Thanks for your help
