Dataflow refresh from dataset

Hello everyone,

I have created a dataflow and used it in one of my desktop files published to the service, which in turn has created a new dataset.

If I refresh the dataset, will is refresh the dataflow as well or does the dataflow need to be separately refreshed manually or via scheduled refresh?

Thank you,

Vishesh Jain

  • Hey visheshjain  - Yes, you will need to refresh the Dataflow separately. Refreshing a PBI Dataset will not refresh the Dataflow. Hope this helps !

      Hi gauthamboppana ,

Is there any way to refresh the dataflow as well, while refreshing the dataset?

Also if we use a PBI Dataset inside another report, will refreshing the 2nd dataset refresh the 1st dataset?

      Thanks!

    Hi visheshjain

Yes, dataflow refresh and dataset refresh are separate. When you refresh the dataset, it does not trigger a refresh of dataflow.

You can refresh a dataset / dataflow by manual refresh or scheduled refresh.

If you want to refresh the dataflow while refreshing the dataset, as far as I know, you can use Power Automate to trigger the refresh of a Power BI dataset when a dataflow refresh completes successfully.

For how to use power automate to refresh datasets and dataflows at the same time, please refer to the following tutorials:Streamline Power BI Refresh: Refresh dataset after a successful refresh of dataflow - RADACAD

For more information about tenants, please refer to: Trigger dataflows and Power BI datasets sequentially - Power Query | Microsoft Docs
