Can't Access Active Alerts

I'm on fabric capacity and had previous had set a couple alerts through the app on a report that sends notification to teams. However, when I click manage rule or view detail button on the alert it brings me to the My Power BI Activator page in the workspace but says "We could not read the content of this item".

Also when I navigate to report I had set the alerts and look to add another one, my older alerts no longer show. So in the end I can't manage any of the current alerts.

Any fixes for this?

  • When did you create your previous alert?
If you created them before the GA, it is possible that you have to recreate these alerts

For the issue related to the alerts, are you sure that your fabric capacity is associated to the workflow in which you are trying to create an alert ?

I will double check on that, but the issue is I'm still getting notifications from those alerts? Is there no way to turn them off?

  • Hii negbc

This issue usually happens when alerts were created on a dashboard tile or import-mode dataset, but the workspace has since moved to Fabric capacity where alerts are only supported for classic dashboards. When the underlying item type changes, Power BI cannot open the alert rules anymore, which is why you see “We could not read the content of this item” and older alerts stop appearing. At the moment there is no way to manage or recover those alerts  the only fix is to recreate the alerts from a classic dashboard tile (not from a report visual) or switch back to a supported non-Fabric workspace. Microsoft is still working on full alert support for Fabric.

Hi, the alerts were created once on fabric capacity and not before.

        Hi negbc,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thank you rohit1991 and Cookistador for the prompt response.

Thank you for confirming. This is a known limitation with alerts on fabric capacity. Even though the alerts were created on fabric, they can continue firing while the Activator cannot load or manage them anymore, which causes the error and missing rules.

Currently there is no supported way to edit or disable these alerts from the UI. The only option is to recreate the alerts, mute the notification destination.

If this still does not resolve the issue, please raise a microsoft support ticket so that the alerts can be cleaned up.
