cannot download live connection reports after git sync
After syncing GIT to our feature workspace, all live connection reports cannot be downloaded anymore. All 'normal' reports without the live connection are available for downloading. We have this issues for the past 4 days, before that we had no issue with this.
To be sure we checked to see if there were new limitation on downloading reports (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/service-export-to-pbix#limitations-when-downloading-a-report-pbix-file ) but nothing of this list applies to our reports.
Interesting is that the workspace to the develop branch still works and we can download from there. But all our feature workspaces for some reason do not work anymore.
What I have tried and did not work:
- create new branch in Azure devops based on develop and sync again
- create new workspace in Power BI and sync anew
- change definition file myself as part of the Power BI update from August
- upload desktop file to workspace, will not see any difference in working develop branch and not working feature branch
If anybody knows if this is a bug or is having the same issues, please let me know!
PS. I know how to recover the files, but if we have to upload all the reports again for every new feature branch, I will loose my mind 😛

Hi tvm23
It’s not your setup,it looks more like a service side issue after the August update. Live connection reports can’t be exported anymore once synced with feature branches, while normal reports still work.
What you can try for now:
- Stick to downloading from your develop branch workspace (seems to work fine).
- If you must work in feature branches, the only workaround is re-uploading the report PBIX manually.
- Keep an eye on the Power BI release notes this looks like a bug introduced recently, not a limitation change.

Hi RH ,
Thank you for your swift reply!
Have you seen this issue somewhere else in the community or known issues? Can you maybe share some links that describe this issue? I would love to show my managers where the problem lies.
The workaround is not ideal, as we work with a team of 9 people that all work in feature branches. That would mean that we have to upload all reports to all 9 workspaces, everytime we work on a new feature. - jainesh-1New Member
Hey tvm23,
The August update introduced changes around Git integration and live connection handling. MS has acknowledged issues—raise a support ticket if it persists.
Workaround – At the moment the only reliable workaround is to export/download the PBIX from your develop branch workspace (where it still works) and then re-publish it into the feature branch. It’s a bit of extra effort, but until Microsoft fixes the Git + live connection bug, that’s the only consistent way to recover the files.

Hi v-dineshya ,
Thank you so much for the urls to the other posts!
Unfortunatly, these are not the same as the issue I am having and I could not find anything about this in the known issues or service outages.
I will create a Microsoft support ticket for it, as jainesh-1 suggested.
Still curious if other people had this issue as well! Please leave a comment if you have!- v-dineshya
