Backward Deployment

Hello !

I have a deployment pipeline in this order :

A (Development) -> B (Preproduction) -> C (Production).

This is the standard order of the workspace, but there were some reports that have been created directly in B, so is it possible to deploy from B to A? without unassigning the worskpace from the actual pipeline.

Thank you.

  • PBI_2K26  Since you don't want to un-assign your workspaces.

    You can download the reports which are only created in Pre-production (B) and point to those reports to the semantic models in the Development (A) workspace using Power BI Desktop and publish them to the A workspace.

    Now Delete the reports in B workspace and run the deployment pipeline from A to B. Now both your workspaces should be in Sync in the deployment pipeline.

  • Empty your A workspace and do backward deployment of all contents from B to A. That's it!

    Please mark as solved if the solution works!

  • Hey

    In order to do backward deployment, you need to empty previous (Dev) workspace, so that you can deploy all content from test to dev. And you are Set!

  • Hi PBI_2K26,

    Yes, Microsoft Fabric supports backward deployment. You can deploy from a later stage to a previous stage, including B β†’ A, while keeping the pipeline assignments intact. refer official microsoft documentation here.
