I've pbi report connected to Azure sql instance (using different login details) than my windows login When at desktop....report refresh fine ..no problem once it's published ..., a data source ...
You are right, the database is in the cloud, but as you can see the database is not generally available to the public. So you need to provide Power BI a way to get into the network / retrieve a IP-address that is allowed by the database for access. A gateway will help you do this 🙂

Helper IIHi, tried a few times ....selecting all possible options (always failing)
guess because I connect to SQL db using a different account than my PBI service
Should the authentication be Database user name and password on desktop and PBI service
