Arranging fields in powerBI Services

Hi,

I am new to the PowerBI and I have a situation as below.

 1. We have a dashboard to be publised to PowerBI Services and end users should be able to edit the report and should be saving it in their own workspace's but not replace the original report, can this be achieved by creating an App?

2. The end users should not see all the fields in the PowerBI Services and should be able to see only the selected fields that allows them to play with the dashbaord, can this be achieved by moving fields in to a seperate table and hiding all other remaining tables?

Can any one help me with solutions.

Thanks,

Bala

  • Hi Balapradeep ,

1 For end user to create(build) a report in their own workspace.

After you share the build permission of the dataset, end user can create a new report on their own workspace. He can not copy the report to My workspace, but other new workpace. The new report won't affect original report.

Copy reports from other apps or workspaces - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

    2 Hide data.

I recommend you to use RLS in power bi.

Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI can be used to restrict data access for given users. Filters restrict data access at the row level, and you can define filters within roles. In the Power BI service, members of a workspace have access to datasets in the workspace.

    Summary

You can start by creating the RLS role on desktop, publish it to a new workspace, wait for the end user to copy the report to another workspace and set users  as a viewer. if the report is not complex, you can just share the dataset and they can build it themselves. RLS works as well.

what it sounds like you need to do is create a model / dataset in power bi,  you publish the dataset to power bi and then users can build their own dashboards on  top of the model but this would be separate to the dataset.  That way they wont be able to overwrite the model.
