You can use the Split columns by Delimiter in Power Query - see the steps below:

if i specify 2 here, would that take the full conents of the original column, i.e., Joe Bloggs Accountant, and split it over 2 columns? What i want is to discard the word Accountant altogether.

Claire,
If I understand your question, if you choose "at Right most delimiter" instead of "at Each occurence" then you will get the name in one column and Accountant in the other.
