Salesforce Incremental Refresh Error

Hi, I'm using a connection to import Salesforce data and using Incremental refresh.

I don't get any error in Power BI Desktop, but when I publish it to the web service, the Dataset Refresh sends me this error:

Parameter substitution failed with following error: 'Neither mashup nor gateway connection string detected for incremental refresh parameter substitution'

I followed exactly the same steps with another model using an Excel file and was able to publish it succesfully, could this error be just for Salesforce connections???

Thanks in advance!

Vanessa

    Anonymous,

What version of Power BI Desktop do you use?

        Anonymous,

Could you please share fiddler trace log here? You can check this video about how to catch fiddler trace.

  • Hi Anonymous were you able to find a solution? As a workaround, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party connector, a gateway won't be needed this case. I've tried windsor.ai, supermetrics and funnel.io. I stayed with windsor because it is much cheaper so just to let you know other options. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the Salesforce connector in the data sources list:

After that, just grant access to your Salesforce account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your Salesforce fields:

There just select the fields you need. It is also compatible with custom fields and custom objects, so you'll be able to export them through windsor.  Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.

    Hi Vanessa,

The error occurs during incremental refresh parameter substitution in Power BI Service, but the thread does not confirm the root cause.

Power BI Connector for Salesforce supports incremental refresh. Our guide explains how to configure RangeStart, RangeEnd, and Salesforce DateTime fields.

  • This isn't a Salesforce-specific issue. It usually means the Power BI Service can't detect the RangeStart/RangeEnd parameters for incremental refresh. Double-check that the parameters are Date/Time, applied directly in the query filter, and that your refresh policy is configured correctly before publishing.
