Pending Changes Issue

This issue usually happens when Power BI detects unsaved or unapplied changes in Power Query, even though you’ve already loaded and saved the report. It’s often caused by a mismatch between the query editor state and the model state — for example, if a small change was made in Power Query (like renaming a step, modifying a parameter, or even opening a preview) and not fully applied before saving. When your dataset is as large as 4.5 GB and takes 3–4 hours to refresh, this warning becomes especially frustrating because reapplying changes can trigger a full reload. To resolve this, first open Power Query Editor, make sure all queries load correctly, and click Close & Apply even if no changes appear pending. Once it finishes applying, immediately save and close the report. You can also check for hidden or disabled queries, parameters, or preview errors that might be causing Power BI to think a change exists. If the problem persists, try disabling Auto recovery (File > Options > Current File > Data Load) or clearing the Power BI cache to reset the query state. In some cases, this warning can also appear if your query folding or privacy levels have inconsistencies, so ensuring all your queries are from trusted sources and privacy levels are consistent may prevent Power BI from re-triggering the “pending changes” state.
