.XLSX Hyperlink Column Pulling Empty into Power Query

Hi everyone!

 

I’m pulling an .XLSX file from SharePoint that has one column that’s full of hyperlinks. When I pull it into Power Query, the column of hyperlinks is blank, with just the column header. The other columns look good.

 

When I open up the .XLSX file in SharePoint, I’ve noticed that it has a short delay when loading the hyperlink column. I had wondered if Power Query was pulling the data in before the hyperlink column had a chance to load. However, I tried pulling in other .XLSX files that had columns of hyperlinks and no delay when opening the file in SharePoint, but they also showed up as empty. So it seems like the delay in SharePoint isn’t the issue.

 

Does anyone have a fix for the empty column? I don’t need to maintain the hyperlinks. I just need the text from them. Thank you in advance!

    Hi collinq,

    It turns out, the issue is at the data source with how the XLSX files I'm using are generated. SharePoint is re-generating the hyperlinks when the excel files are automatically uploaded and that delay is causing Power BI to miss them when it pulls. The current fix is to open the new excel file in SharePoint and let the hyperlink re-generate before pulling into Power BI. I'm working on a more long-term solution to this issue.

    Hey Anonymous ,

     

    Is the Excel version current?  I am wondering about a compatibility issue?

     

    I also found this in a thread "When you choose your table to import, select "options" in the upper right corner and deselect "Import blocks into columns". Click OK then finish your import. This will import the table with its existing formatting, including the hyperlinks."

      Hi collinq,

      Thanks for your reply! My M365 account automatically updates Excel, so it should be the most current version. I also just updated Power BI.

      I don't see the "options" button referred to in the second part of your reply. Do you have a screenshot you could share?

       

      When I manually add a sensitivity label to the file in SharePoint, the hyperlinks are able to pull into Power BI just fine. Does that sound like an issue at my source instead of within Power BI? None of the other columns require a sensitivity label to show up in PBI.
