Why this graph does not work?

When you refer that the values in column 1 is [blank] do you mean you have that text written on the column or simply the column as no values like this:
A,
A, 1
A, 2
B,
If you have text in the column this will consider the format of the column as text so no calculations are made and you cannot sum values with text. What you need to do is to replace the [blank] with null value on the query editor and then you can sum the values.
If the column doesn't have values written or presents null make sure your column format is set to number.
