What is this format string?

I have a measure with this Format string.   Format: Custom Foormat String: #,##0.00;-#,##0.00;0.00   I dont understand what the ;   does... Also, are the # wildcards?

    Hi Anonymous ,

     

    For your confusion, A format expression for strings can have one section or two sections separated by a semicolon (;)

     


    "#" is a form of User-defined numeric formats.
