WEB source

I noticed that on a computer that had the latest version of power BI installed, the link http://www.imdb.com/chart/top would not open.

I receive an error that states :

We have encountered an error while trying to connect.

Details: The supplied URL must be a valid "http" or "https" URL

The funn thing is that all other websites work. (I tried a few random ones). The issue is only with IMDB. I restarted my system, opened a new power BI project, but it still doesn't work.

When I opened the same link on another system that had the older version, it worked just fine.

Any Ideas as to what is going on??

Another user also faced a similar issue : http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Web-Data-Sources-connection-problem/m-p/160466#M69750

PS: I am new to power BI, so would really appreciate the help

      Hi Reubenjac,

As I said in my version (latest one is working) I already had also some issues that in my computer was not working but in other computer everything was ok.

I am encountering the same issue as described above with Reubenjac's IMDB link

My actual issue is with a different https: url

My file updates every monday - last monday the 5th (before the update) all was fine :smileyhappy:

but now 12th (after update) I  just got this message - the url must be valid etc.... :smileysad:

Well the url is working - opens fine in any browser! (Firefox, Edge, Chrome)

Regretfully I just cleaned my Downloads folder and can't revert to any previous PBI versions to test in those

After last month's "&" ordeal I still deleted all older versions - should have kept at least 1 backup working PBI version

MarcelBeugImkeFany ideas/suggestions as always will be greatly appreciated :smileyhappy:

In PBI this is what happens with Reubenjac's link http://www.imdb.com/chart/top

In Excel Power Query on the other hand all seems fine... with both my link and the IMDB link...

        Thanks! :smileyhappy:

  • Hi Reubenjac,

I'm using the March 2018 updated 64bit version and everything is working ok on the link.

Did you try File | Options | Data source settings and clearing the permissions as there was in the post you mentioned.

    Regards,

    MFelix

Thanks for the reply MFelix. However, despite clearing the permissions in the data file settings, the problem persits :(
