we couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided - error

Hi All,

Can someone advice what might be the root cause of this error ?

I'm the owner and the sole user on the site.

It was working fine for couple of weeks and yesterday started giving me this, without any changes from my end.

I removed couple files from that site ( random excel files i use in this power bi ) and since then i can't connect to it .

I tried clearing permission in the pbix file, browser cache, restarting , nothing resolves it.

I can connect and refresh any other power bi report using any other sp site that i have access too.

Thanks,

Pawel.

Restored the document library to state 'one week ago' issue was gone.

Restored the document library to state 'yesterday' issue is back.

Both of library states have some files, neither one is completly empty.

Seems it's something about the files. Any further debugg hints? The case is that those files will be removed and why would removal of file cause authentication errors ?

In this pbix i have both a list ( added via SharePoint Online List connector ) and document library ( added via SharePoint folder connector, not individual files targeting  ) from the same sharepoint site.

List refreshes just fine, no errors given, only the document library throws an error .

    #edit

Found the issue, one of newly uploaded file was uploaded with file extension like xxx instead of xxx.txt .

After providing it with file extension pbix refreshed just fine.

    Please mark this as Solved.

    Best regards,

    Pawel.

    Hi burnt_fingers ,

If possible, restore the deleted files to see if that solves the problem. there may be dependencies on these files in Power BI reports. And ensure that the dataset in the Power BI report is still pointing to the correct file and path.
If you still can't solve the problem, please provide the version number of your Desktop, the data source you are connecting to, and the credentials you are using.

    Best Regards,
    Dino Tao
