Using Excel and PowerBI from same source, how?

hi , i would like to use one source (either pbix or xlsx) as i need the data for both visualizing and using pivot tables, what is the best practice so i dont need to create two connections and calcul...

    Hi bilingual ,

    Firstly I think you can import your data into Power BI Desktop.

    Then you can use the Power Query Editor to clean and transform your data as needed. This includes setting data types, creating calculated columns, or summarizing data. You can also use pivot column.

If your source data is in Excel or another easily ingestable format like CSV and you aim to do as many of your transformations as possible in PowerQuery then in most instances you can simply copy your PowerQuery queries between PowerQuery in Excel and PowerQuery in PowerBi Desktop so you can load the same dataset for both and use either/both, whichever you find best for the task. PowerBI is going to be better for relational modelling and for interactive visuals while Excel may be easier for sharing the data and for some pivot tables use cases that aren't easy to replicate in PowerBI.
