Unexpected Error: The Specified Key is Not a Valid Size for this algorithm

Hello,

I've been receiving this error for quite sometime now, and I for the life of me cannot figure out how to resolve it. I've cleared out my caches at both file locations mentioned in various forums, but this issue still persists. If someone could help me out, that would be great. This issue pops up automatically in PowerQuery, and therefore I'm unable to view my data at any step in the preprocessing workflow.

Thanks

    Hi mnburke ,

What's the version of your Power BI Desktop? Please try to update the latest one if it still not the latest version.  Please make sure that you have deleted all of the cache files under the below directories after close Power BI Desktop:

    • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\PowerQuery\Cache
    • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Cache
    • C:\Users\<username>\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop Store App\ExtensionCache
    • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftPowerBIDesktop_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Local\Power BI Desktop

Then open Power BI Desktop again to check if it can work well...

You can refer the following threads which have the similar problem as yours.

Unexpected error: The specified key is not a valid size for this algorithm.

The specified key is not a valid size for this algorithm.

The issue was resolved by deleting the cache.key file here:  C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Cache

    Best Regards
