Trello data visuals

Hello All

Till now I have played with operations, sales , financials data but haven't played with Trello where it has cards, lists, members, status-complate, started, overdue etc and so on, so basically task tracker with how many people are working on a task, comments etc. I am stuk with how to present a good dashboard visually that can tell a story.

Please help

  • Hi learner03 ,

At the moment, we don't have a ready made Trello specific dashboard, but you can definitely take inspiration from similar task management and workflow dashboards in the Data Stories Gallery. These examples can help you understand layout, KPI placement, colour usage, and storytelling patterns that you can easily adapt for Trello boards.

For Trello (task tracker) dashboards, the key is storytelling, not just showing raw data. Here’s how to structure it:

1️⃣ Define the story / questions

    • What’s the current status of tasks? (Completed / In Progress / Overdue)
    • Who is overloaded or behind?
    • Where are bottlenecks in the workflow?
    • Are tasks trending up or down over time?
    • Which tasks are longest running or causing friction?

    2️⃣ Key metrics / KPIs

    • Tasks by Status (Completed / In Progress / Overdue)
    • Tasks per Member
    • Average Cycle Time / Lead Time per List or Board
    • Tasks Created vs Completed trend
    • Overdue tasks and duration in each list

    3️⃣ Dashboard layout suggestions

    • Top KPIs: Quick view of Completed, Overdue, In Progress
    • Bar / Donut charts: Tasks by Status and by Member
    • Flow / Sankey / Heatmaps: Time spent per list and workflow transitions
    • Trend charts: Created vs Completed tasks, Overdue trend

    4️⃣ Visualization tips

    • Use color coding:
      • 🔴 Overdue
      • 🟡 In Progress
      • 🟢 Completed
    • Show small multiples per member to compare performance
    • Use tooltips for extra info: comments count, last update, duration

    5️⃣ Bonus tip

If you have many lists or members, create roles/teams grouping to simplify the view and focus on actionable insights.

This setup will allow your dashboard to tell the story of workload, progress, and bottlenecks instead of just listing tasks.

Thank you Nabha-Ahmed  for your detailed response. Are there any current dashboards related to this that I can take ideas from?
