Text Box - Fix This broken
Hi
While trying to write a text box with a mix of static and dynamic values, I have run into an error that (currently) is preventing me from fixing the issue without starting from scratch!
See details: vague at best.
Fix This: Does nothing!
Anybody else experienced this or know how to recover from it?
Thanks in advance.
Oli
Hi music43 ,
Yeah, I’ve run into this before — it usually happens when a dynamic field in the text box gets corrupted or loses its binding (especially after model changes or field renames).
Here’s what you can try:
- Don’t try to fix it inside the broken visual — that rarely works.
- Instead, delete the text box and recreate it from scratch. I know it’s annoying, but once the binding breaks, the visual often becomes unrecoverable.
- If you want to avoid this in the future:
- Always double-check that the fields you're referencing in the text box still exist and haven’t been renamed or deleted.
- Avoid using too many nested measures or calculated columns directly inside the text box — instead, reference clean, stable measures.
Also, if you’re using a preview feature like dynamic text in Power BI Desktop, make sure your version is up to date — some of these bugs have been patched in recent updates.
Let me know if you want help rebuilding the text logic.

Hi burakkaragoz
Thanks for the heads up. You are correct that a couple of fild renames was the culprit!
I was able to partially recover the visual by copy/pasting the original and then editing the values under the reveiw section which has at least saved some time.
Many thanks 👍
