SYNOPTIC PANEL - Error on Import Visual

Hello,

I had been using an older version of Synoptic panel.

I upgraded it recently to the most recent version - but now i am getting the error of "An error occurred while rendering the report"

Has anyone else had this problem?

I am using January 2024 version of PowerBi due to restrictions within my company.

All my reports rely on this.

Thanks

  • Hi chriswoodiow ,

Yeah, this issue has come up a few times with recent updates to the Synoptic Panel visual. Here are a few things you can try:

    1. Check Visual Compatibility
The latest version of Synoptic Panel might require a newer version of Power BI Desktop than January 2024. Even if the visual installs, it may not render properly due to API mismatches.

    2. Try Reverting to the Older Version
If your reports were working fine before the upgrade, you can manually re-import the older version of the visual:

      • Go to AppSource or your local backup
      • Remove the current visual from your report
      • Import the older .pbiviz file manually
    3. Clear Visual Cache
Sometimes Power BI caches visual metadata. Try clearing the cache:

      • Close Power BI
      • Delete contents of this folder:
        C:\Users\<YourUser>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Cache
    4. Check for Deprecated Features
Some older visuals rely on features that are deprecated in newer versions of the visual itself. If your Synoptic Panel was using custom SVG maps or advanced tooltips, try simplifying the visual and re-testing.

Let me know if you need help finding the older version of the visual. I can point you to a few safe sources.
