SQL Server error while connecting

Hope this helps.Are you using Service principal authentication? if yes then does that SPN has permissions to access the db that you are trying to connect?
Have you tried connecting to that db from other client tools like SSMS, excel and data studio etc? if yes then were you able to connect?
Gateway instllation is not required in your case.
