Something Went Wrong
I've spent the day building a report in Power BI desktop, only for it to throw an error at me at the end of the day. And with no access to the auto recover file, I'm stuck. I'm being hit with an error message that reads: "Something went wrong. An error occurred while rendering the report". I sense this is an issue with a matrix visual I've got linked to bookmarks. But I'm at a loss as to how to overcome this error.
In my particular case, the resolution to this lay in the visual. The error was being thrown when the visual was rendering. Simply switching the affected visual to an alternative type (in this case Matrix>Stacked Bar Chart) and then back (Stacked Bar Chart>Matrix) resolve the issue. The error message does not identify which visual is affected, so where there is more than one visual on a page, it may be a case of trial and error in trying to fix this.

Could you try one more thing. Power BI Desktop has a cache. Please try clearing the cache, with the following steps:
1) Close all instances of Power BI Desktop
2) Open file explorer and navigate to the folder <system drive>:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\CEF\cache
- replace <system drive> with your operating system hard disk partition
- replace <user> with your user profile name, typically the alias you login to Windows with
3) Delete all contents of this folder
4) Restart Power BI Desktop
