Not quite sure I've got your point 100%, according to your description, doesn't a page level filter work? The page level filter affects all visualizations within that page.

Visual filter or date based slicer will help me select the dates between the start date and end date one by one using the check box.
But the issue is, it is really cumbersome to keep selecting each date, if I am intersted in a date range of long period.
For example, if I want to look at daily report counts from Feb 15th 2016 to April 3rd 2016, it is really painful for me to keep checking the box against each date.
Since I am looking for specific dates based range, month based slicer will give me more than the window I am interested in.
Is there some way for me to achieve this, with simpler, date based window selection option ?

As far as I know that currently there's no more flexible way to filter a long period date range. I will report your feedback internally and you can also submit your idea on the Power BI idea forum, our engineer will evaluate it and take good consideration about it.
There's an experimental custom visual "time brush" which somewhat has the similar functionality, but not well built in personal opinion.
The only good news that I've found when playing with the Custom Visual Timeline chart in a day granularity is, you can click the start date and drag the scroll bar quickly to the end date, press "shift" and click on the end date. Hope this can make it less cumbersome.- sundari

I will surely add the idea to Power BI idea forum. If we can have a simple calander based visual, to select the start and end date, for date range, that will be very helpful.
In the mean time, using "shift" is quite an useful tip while using the current visual timeline option.
