setting default values to slicer on direct query
hi Nhallquist
what do you mean by 'those objects'. i have a few filters and i want to set default
another thing - if i select one thing on slicer on dashboard, the visuals slices and then go to the report, the slicing cancel. why is that? how can i keep the slicing or higlighting?
thanks!
Sorry for the confusion. "Those objects" would be the ones you want to only have the Current Month selected. At this time, there is no way that I am aware of to set the slicers to a specific default selection. I do know that you can write DAX formulas for Current Month and use those in visuals, and I know that you can use Visual/Page/Report filters to make a report that is Current Month.
With that said, could you tell us the use case is for this functionality? Maybe knowing that will help lead us to a solution.

Nhallquisthi, thank you for your help!
actually, my connection is SSAS-Live connection so i can't write dax queries, unfortunately
i have a months slicer, and i want to show the visuals for only the current month instead of showing the whole years of data
i know that i can publish the report with the selection but it's not smart enough ;)
thanks!

Without knowing too much more, this is what I would do, and this is assuming you access to do this too.
I would see if you could get a field created in your SSAS data that designates whether the date value you are using can be flagged as Current Month or not, typically done with a 1 and Zero. Once you have that field in the data, I would add that field to the Page or Report Filter and filter for the Current Month value. That would get you a filtered view of the data. However, it won't allow the users to remove a selection and investigate the information contained within the data.
Something else to think about is to creatively use that created field mentioned above in a slicer. You could translate the 1 and Zero used to identify current month, change it to a Yes and No and add it to a slicer and let the users choose when to use it. Remember that on the 1st and 2nd or the month, current month numbers will be pretty scarce, so allowing options could be strategic. Once you have that in place, think about something for Last month, or Year to Date.
Good luck,
Nate
