Amit is right, they are related but they are not the same concept.

A Power BI semantic model is a specific analytical artifact. It defines things such as tables, relationships, measures, hierarchies, business logic and security that consumers can use for reporting and analysis.

A data product in Microsoft Purview is broader. It is usually a business-facing package of data assets created for a defined use case, with ownership, context and governance around it.

So a simple way to think about it is:

• Semantic model = analytical/modeling layer
• Data product = governed business offering built from one or more data assets

A semantic model can therefore contribute to a data product, but having a semantic model does not automatically mean you have a data product.
