Semantic Model - adding additional sources / Unconnecting from one
Hello,
I've succefully published a (basic) semantic model to "My Workspace" in Power BI service with PBI Desktop.
Then I've created a new Power BI Desktop report and successfully "connected" to that published semantic modell: "Get Data" -> "Power BI Semantic Models".
As soon as this happens: "Transforming Data" gets grayed out, (as well as the all the other options to get data".
So my first question: Is there a way to add additional sources to an existing semantic modell? (Maybe due to license restrictions?)
In addition: I'm not able to "disconnect" from that semantic model. I'm only allowed to edit the "Data source settings", which leads to the option to replace the semantic model with other semantic models. The only workaround seems to be not to have saved and start over again.

Using composite models with Power BI semantic models and Analysis Services, you can build a composite model using a DirectQuery connection to connect to Power BI semantic models, Azure Analysis Services (AAS), and SQL Server 2022 Analysis Services. Using a composite model, you can combine the data in these sources with other DirectQuery and imported data.

When you are using Data source is Semantic Model, it is works like live connection and you are not able to add more data source. Any thing you need to add, please add in Semantic Model and then you can use this for your report.

thank you for your reply. I was wondering about the idea, where a report can connect to more than one model, as suggested in this post: https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Desktop/Semantic-Model-Advice/m-p/3721457#M1211309. (which I should have included in my first post)
This would have solved a basic requirement: providing some common tables/datasets as basis for different semantic models.
So basically, if the scope, grain or detail in one semantic modell is not enought, one is required to enhance that model. Sharing already modeled data with different models is not possible

thank you for that pointer. This has encouraged me to resume my tests in Power BI in this regard. As soon as I connect to a semantic model outside of "My Workspace", I was allowed to incorporate other data sources as well.
