The main purpose of score cards is to track business goals against defined KPI(Key Performance Indicators) such monthly sale targets and how much we have achieved so far?
Where as report tells what is happening and why this happeningWhen should you use a scorecard or reports ?
- Use reports when you need detailed analysis, trends, drill-downs, and root-cause investigation.
- Use scorecards when management needs to monitor business objectives, track progress against targets, and hold KPI owners accountable.

You're right — you can absolutely track KPIs, targets, and performance directly in a Power BI report.
The main difference is that **Scorecards are designed for managing business goals, not just visualizing metrics.**
They provide additional capabilities such as:
- Assigning owners to specific goals.
- Tracking progress against targets and deadlines.
- Recording status updates, check-ins, and comments.
- Maintaining a history of progress and status changes.
- Bringing together goals from different reports in one place.
Think of it this way:
**A Power BI report helps you understand what is happening. A Scorecard helps you manage what you want to achieve, who is responsible, and how progress is being tracked.**
If your requirement is simply to monitor KPIs and compare actuals against targets, a regular Power BI report is often sufficient.
Scorecards become more useful when you need goal ownership, collaboration, and structured performance management.
Hope this clarifies the difference!
