Save changes on Report settings under 'Current File' not working

Hi folks;

I'm with 'Version: 2.159.883.0 64-bit (October, 2026)' and recently not able to save changes on 'Current File'. For example on this attached screenshot 'Hide the visual header in reading view' was checked by default. If i deselect it and then click 'Save' the change is not happening.

Does anyone have similar issue? or is there something wrong with my settings?

Thanks

  • Hi MasonMA

This could be related to an invalid setting elsewhere in Power BI Desktop rather than an issue with the report itself.

I noticed that the OK button appears to be disabled in your screenshot.

I would suggest checking the following:

    1. Go to File > Options and settings > Options.
    2. Under Global, check the R scripting, Python scripting, and Save and Recover settings. Invalid or inaccessible paths in these sections have previously caused the OK button to remain disabled.
    3. Try changing the setting again in a new, blank PBIX file to see whether the issue is file-specific.
    4. Check whether other settings under Current File can be saved.

Also, keep in mind that "Hide the visual header in reading view" affects reading view, so you may not see the expected behavior while editing the report in Desktop.

If the setting reverts immediately after reopening Options, even in a new PBIX file, it could indicate an issue with the October 2026 version.

Ritaf1983 You are a genius!! thank you!

Did trouble-shooting with your tips and noticed the path under 'Save and Recover' is invalid,  corrected it and now it's working!

also thanks to Amar_Kumar  codeautomation for sharing your suggestions.

  • Hi,

Since you're using Power BI Desktop version 2.159.883.0 (October 2026), this could be a settings persistence issue, but it's worth isolating the cause first.

I'd suggest trying a few checks:

    1. Create a new blank PBIX file, navigate to File > Options and settings > Options > Current File > Report settings, change the visual header setting, and click Save. Check whether the change is retained.
    2. If the setting works in a new file, the issue might be specific to your existing report.
    3. Save a copy of the affected PBIX file, close Power BI Desktop, reopen it, and check whether the setting persists.
    4. Try changing another option under Current File to see whether the problem affects all report settings or only the visual header option.
    5. Check whether the same behaviour occurs in an updated Power BI Desktop build, if one is available.

If the issue is reproducible in a new blank PBIX file, it may indicate a regression in the October release.

One question: Does the checkbox immediately revert after clicking Save, or does it appear saved but reset when you reopen the file?

That distinction would help narrow down whether the problem is with the settings interface or file persistence.

  • Hello MasonMA I’d try saving the PBIX, closing it, and reopening it to see if the change sticks. If it doesn’t, try Save As to a local folder and check that the file isn’t read-only.
If it still happens, does the same thing occur in a new report? That would help narrow down whether it’s related to this file or Power BI Desktop.
