SAP HANA DATABASE CONNECTION ISSUE

Hello All,

I need to connect SAP HANA DATABASE with POWER BI. But when I try to connect it shows,
"This connector requires one or more addtional components to be installed before it can be used."

What are the components should I installed before connecting Hana?

  • Hi Microsoft gvignesh_kumar,

To fix this error, you need to install the SAP HANA ODBC driver. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

    1. Download the SAP HANA Client:
      • Access the SAP Software Download Center or SAP Development Tools (requires an SAP account).
      • Search for "SAP HANA CLIENT" and download the package for your operating system (e.g., Windows).
      • Ensure you choose the correct bit version (32-bit or 64-bit) to match your Power BI Desktop or Fabric environment. For example, 64-bit Power BI requires the 64-bit driver.
    2. Install the SAP HANA Client:
      • Run the installer (e.g., hdbsetup.exe) and follow the prompts to install the client tools, including the ODBC driver.
      • Note: If you have an older version of Microsoft Visual C++ installed, it might cause conflicts. Uninstall it manually and rerun the installer if needed.
    3. Verify the Installation:
      • Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator on your computer (search for "ODBC Data Sources" in Windows).
      • Check the "Drivers" tab to confirm the SAP HANA ODBC driver (e.g., HDBODBC or HDBODBC32) is listed.
    4. Connect in Power BI/Fabric:
      • In Power BI Desktop or Microsoft Fabric, go to Get Data > SAP HANA Database.
      • Enter the server name and port (e.g., SAPHANAServer:30015).
      • Select Import or DirectQuery mode and provide your database credentials.
    5. Additional Tips:
      • Ensure Power BI Desktop is updated to the latest version to avoid compatibility issues.
      • If you’re using a Power BI Gateway for scheduled refreshes in Fabric, install the ODBC driver on the gateway machine too.
      • Double-check that the driver’s bit version matches your Power BI/Fabric setup.

    Problem Solved!

After installing the SAP HANA ODBC driver, I was able to connect to the SAP HANA database without any issues. I hope this helps others in the Fabric community facing the same error.
