Refresh Data

Hi, I have a few questions about refreshing data:

If I create a data model in Power Pivot for Excel and import the excel contents into Power BI Desktop, can I refresh the data in Power BI Desktop, and if so how ?

If I create a data model in Power Pivot, upload the model into Power BI Desktop and then upload the model into My Workspace, is it possible to refersh the data in My Workspace, and if so how ?

If I share a file from My Workspace with another user (we both have pro licences) can the other user refresh the data, and if so how ?

Depending on whether the above are possible or not what is the best way to share data with another user where the other user can refresh data ?

Many Thanks.

  • HI,

To answer your first question, I am assuming that the source data for your Excel model is coming from some external data source (such as CSV/Excel files lying in a folder).  If that be the case, then when you import the Excel file (with your PowerPivot model) into PowerBI desktop, refresh should work seemlessly i.e. in you add more CSV/Excel files in the source data folder, a refresh of your PowerPivot desktop file should pick up the new data.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Ashish, thanks for your reply.

Some of the tables, such as the date table are in excel while other tables containing accounting data are in an Accounting Package called Accpac (SQL). I have specific permissions to get the SQL Data, Is it possible that thie permissions will prevent Desktop from refreeshing the data, I don't have a problem with refreshing the Power Pivot data from all the data sources.

      Thanks again
