Power BI Interaction Issue Between Table and Line Chart
I have a table visual at the top and a line chart below it in Power BI.
When a user selects a row in the table, the line chart correctly filters and shows the corresponding row-level data.
However, if the user then selects a data point on the line chart, the table selection gets cleared. As a result, the chart switches to showing total or average values, and the previously displayed row-level line disappears.
Requirement:
I want the table selection to remain persistent, and the line chart should continue to display data based only on the selected row(s) from the table, even if the user interacts with the chart.
Has anyone faced this behavior? How can I prevent the chart interaction from overriding or clearing the table selection?

Hi svssatish,
Currently there's no native way to keep a table row permanently selected while continuing to interact with another visual.
Workaround is to use a slicer instead of table row selection, as slicer selections persist while interacting with other visuals. Configure Edit Interactions so the line chart does not affect the table.

Hi svssatish,
If you want the table selection to remain persistent, you will need to adjust the visual interactions between the table and the chart -
Go to Format > Edit interactions while the table is selected.
On the line chart, change the interaction from 'filter' to 'none'. This way, clicking on the chart will not override the tableβs filter context.
The chart will continue to respond only to the table selection, and user clicks on the chart will not clear it.

Hi Rupa,
Thanks for your response. However, if I set the interaction to 'None', the chart no longer responds to the table selection at all, so the requirement is not fulfilled.
My requirement is for the chart to be filtered by the table selection, but at the same time, interactions on the chart should not override or clear the table selection.

svssatish Currently, we don't have option available in Power BI to keep the data point selected to be fixed while interacting with another visual data point.

When you click a data point in the line chart, it creates a new filter context and clears the table selection. Unfortunately, there is no built-in way to keep a table selection fixed while using another visual. For lasting filtering, use a Slicer instead of a table, or turn off the chart's interaction with the table using Edit Interactions

Yes this is expected functionality - I tell my users if they want to select data points from multiple visuals, hold CTL when clicking on subsequent data points.
