Operator or expression '( )" is not supported in this context

Hi Everyone,

New here and would highly appreciate your help.

I am getting the error "Operator or expression '( )" is not supported in this context"

I checked a couple of times, but in my opinion the formula is correct - at least this is how I would write it in Excel. Please can someone help out

Thanks in advance,

Dessi

  • You had some extra () in there and one of your conditions was outside the IF().  Give this a try.

    Discussion Points =
    IF (
        Data[Follow-upDate] <= TODAY (),
        "To Be Discussed",
        IF (
            ISBLANK ( Data[Follow-upDate] ),
            "To Be Discussed",
            IF (
                AND ( ISBLANK ( Data[Completion Date] ), ISBLANK ( Data[Follow-upDate] ) ),
                "To Be Discussed",
                "OK"
            )
        )
    )

  • You can also use a SWITCH instead of nested IFs, makes it easier to read sometimes.

    Discussion Point =
    SWITCH (
        TRUE (),
        Data[Follow-upDate] <= TODAY (), "To Be Discussed",
        ISBLANK ( Data[Follow-upDate] ), "To Be Discussed",
        AND ( ISBLANK ( Data[Completion Date] ), ISBLANK ( Data[Follow-upDate] ) ), "To Be Discussed",
        "OK"
    )

      Thank you so much for your help!!! One more question, please: I am trying to exclude specific test from a column, but the "NOT" does not to be acceptable. Please could you help with the way to exclude / filter out based on specific test, please. THANKS

      SWITCH (
      TRUE (),
      Data[Follow-upDate] <= TODAY (), "To Be Discussed",
      ISBLANK ( Data[Follow-upDate] ), "To Be Discussed",
      AND ( ISBLANK ( Data[Completion Date] ), ISBLANK ( Data[Follow-upDate] ) ), "To Be Discussed",
      Data[Status] not "COMPLETED", "To be Discussed",
      "OK"
      )

        Try it like this.

        Discussion Point =
        SWITCH (
            TRUE (),
            Data[Follow-upDate] <= TODAY (), "To Be Discussed",
            ISBLANK ( Data[Follow-upDate] ), "To Be Discussed",
            AND ( ISBLANK ( Data[Completion Date] ), ISBLANK ( Data[Follow-upDate] ) ), "To Be Discussed",
            Data[Status] <> "COMPLETED", "To be Discussed",
            "OK"
        )

  • Please post the text of your meaure here instead of a screen shot so we don't have to re-type it out to test it.
