Responsive ResidentModel name changes with TE3 lost after datamodel refresh
Hi,
I am suffering a behaviour that I am not sure if it is a bug or the expected behaviour.
These are the steps I follow:
1) Save pbix as pbip
2) Open model from Tabular Editor 3 desktop
3) Rename several object names using TE3 (I prefer do it instead of using PBI)
4) Save changes on TE3
At that point changes done are visible on PBI desktop as expected
Therefore I refresh the model and all names changes are lost
Does it take sense?

When you save a Power BI Desktop file (PBIX) as a Power BI Template (PBIP), it essentially creates a template of your current Power BI report. This template can be used to generate new Power BI files, but it doesn't typically include the data itself, only the structure and design of the report.
Once you finish making the adjustments in TE3 and save the file down, can you save the PBIP as a PBIX, then reattempt the refresh and see if this fixes the issue?

alfBIHi, I was saving it as a Power BI Porject (PBIP) not as template (PBIT). Anyway I try your suggestion to save it as PBIX with the TE3 changes, but once done name changes are lost after model data refresh.... curiously other metadata changed from TE3 remains (e.g: column names descriptions) but the column name changes are lost...

Not sure if this has some value but the model is refreshing against a dataflow.....

Can you let me know:
1. Are you making the changes in TE3 when the file type is a PBIX or PBIP?2. After you save changes in TE3, are the changes reflected in the Power BI Model?
3. Once the changes are made in the Power BI Model, are you saving down as PBIX and then publishing?
4. After publishing, is that the point you are doing the manual refresh?
5. What is the data source you are connecting to?

is a PBIP

Yes

I save (as PBIP again), but I am not yet publishing it.
4. After publishing, is that the point you are doing the manual refresh?
I do the manual refresh without publishing
5. What is the data source you are connecting to?
A Power BI Dataflow

I have been reviewing the TE3 documentation and the explanation seems to be here
I enabled the option to allow unsupported operations (e.g: columns renames) but this is clearly not supported as I have noticed.....
