I think using the Column of Event Description rather than a Measure is what I wanted.

Microsoft Employeemrothschild I was looking at the documenation SELECTEDVALUE function - DAX | Microsoft Docs and because those have the same description that may be why it's not showing. Maybe try SELECTEDVALUE(distinct([text description column])), or include a column that will force each single row to show in the matrix.
