"Isn't a valid file path" error when saving .pbip project as .pbix

Hi all,
Whenever I try to save my .pbip project as a .pbix file, I get an "isn't a valid file path" error.

It happens no matter which folder location I choose to save to - the error is the same every time.

Power BI Desktop version: 2.155.756.0 64-bit (June 2026)

Has anyone come across this before, or know of a fix?

Thanks

  • Hi,

Since June 2026 is already the latest version, this could be a PBIP-related bug.

A few quick things to check:

    • Try saving to a simple local path like C:Temp

    • Avoid OneDrive / SharePoint / network folders

    • Verify the PBIP structure (.pbip, Report, Semantic Model) wasn’t modified manually

    • Try repairing/reinstalling Power BI Desktop

Does this happen with all PBIP files or only this specific project?

I am using the same version. I reproduced your scenario and I did not face any issue. I would suggest you to try saving the file with a different name and see if that helps. If you could do that then probably you can rename the new file same as what it should be.

If you want to find the reason then you can capture the traces and analyze them to find the root cause.

If you have Power BI Pro license then you can also raise a support ticket with Microsoft and get the RCA from them.

    Hope this answers your question.
