How to decrease height of row (with image) in matrix?
Hi JustinDoh1,
The extra row height is coming from the image cell, not from the PNG itself. The native matrix does not auto-size rows to the actual image file. It uses a fixed Image size in the format pane (default is often around 75px). That value drives the whole row, including the star columns.
- Shrink the image size (this is the main fix)
- Select the matrix
- Format visual -> Visual
- Expand Image size
- Set Height and Width to something small, e.g. 20–24 px (range is 8–512)
That should pull the LB/MO rows back down close to the original star-only layout.
- Tighten the grid as well
Still on the matrix:
- Grid / Options -> reduce Row padding
- Values -> turn Word wrap off (wrap plus images makes rows even taller)
If you need compact rows and a small icon
If 20–24px still looks too tall, consider not using Image URL for a simple stop icon:
- A DAX/SVG measure with an explicit height/width (Recommended)
- Or a Unicode / conditional icon instead of a hosted image
Image URL is the least flexible option for row height.

maruthisp Thank you so much for your help.
I am having an issue opening your attached PBIX file.
First it indicated that I need to enable PBIR Preview, so I did on my Power BI desktop setting.
Now, it indicates this:
Can you please help me what needs to be done or attach other PBIX file (if it does not require this issue to be taken care)?
Thank you.
Hi JustinDoh1
Try to install the latest version of PowerBI desktop and try to open the downloaded pbix file of maruthisp . If you still facing any issues let us know we are happy to assist you.
