"Enter your email address" pop-up when loading image or inserting shape
Hi!
I’m using Power BI for self-learning, and I don’t have a work or school email.
Until recently, this wasn’t an issue.
The problem started when I tried to insert a shape. After that, a pop-up keeps appearing that says “Enter your email address.” And if I press сancel, it just shows up again and again, and I can’t do anything else in Power BI unless I delete the shape.
Can I use shape insertion in Power BI Desktop without signing in with a work/school email?
Hi Andrew20 ,
First of all I have some times some similar issues but not at adding a specific shape but when login in or refreshing data even not connected to a specific MSFT service.
What is the version you are using?
A couple of thing that may be worth to check:
- Check if the save to onedrive and Sharepoint (preview features) is selected
- If is selected unselect please this will always force the sign in option several times
- Save the file to a local folder, do not use onedrive even a personal account since this can request for multiple logins
If this does not work try to post this on the issues part of the forum since it's followed by MSFT support and maybe they can give you some additional guidance.

Hi Andrew20 ,
Yes — you can use shapes and images in Power BI Desktop without signing in. The repeated “Enter your email address” prompt is a bug/regression that shows up in some recent Desktop builds (most often the Microsoft Store edition) when you’re not signed in.
Update or switch build
If you’re on the Microsoft Store edition, uninstall it and install the MSI (offline) build from the Microsoft Download Center. This version doesn’t nag for sign‑in during offline work and is the most reliable for learning without an org account.
If you’re already on MSI, update to the latest monthly release. If it still happens, roll back to a prior stable build (one or two months back). Please mark this post as solution if it helps you. Appreciate Kudos.

You can use shapes in Power BI Desktop without signing in, but some shapes trigger a cloud-related sign-in loop. To avoid it:
- Stick to basic shapes (like rectangles, circles).
- Disable preview features in File → Options.
- Or sign in with a free Microsoft 365 trial work email for full access. - cristianbostanNew Member
What did the trick for me was to deactivate Options (global) > Preview features > Translytical task flow.
