Engineering Schema Visual

Hi, I would like to create a visual for energy flow like in the following picture:

My data has 3 columns including "Direction (Input/Output)" which shows the direction of the energy flow (arrows in the picture), "Entity 1", and "Entity 2".

Could you please recommend any visual that I can use to create it? Thank you.

    check deneb charts .

although there is a  learning curve, with deneb, you have some templates you can use ( while modifying the code using any ai tool like chatgpt per example )  to achieve your desired result .

    hope this helps

  • Hi liselotte,

A Sankey diagram is ideal for visualizing energy flows or material transfers between entities, as it:

    • Shows directed flows (arrows) between nodes (entities).
    • Can display the magnitude of the flow (e.g., through the width of the arrows).
    • Supports labeling of flows and nodes.

Why a Sankey Diagram Fits Your Data

    • Direction (Input/Output): This column determines the direction of the flow (e.g., "Input" means Entity 1 → Entity 2, "Output" means Entity 2 → Entity 1). In a Sankey diagram, arrows inherently show direction.
    • Entity 1 and Entity 2: These columns represent the nodes (e.g., "BHKW1," "Stromerzeugung"). Sankey diagrams use nodes to represent entities and links to represent flows between them.
    • Flow Quantities: While your data doesn’t explicitly include quantities (e.g., 3 units of gas, 5 units of electricity), the diagram includes values like "Erdgas 3" or "Strom 5." If your data has a quantity column (or you can add one), the Sankey diagram can scale the width of arrows to reflect these values. If not, you can still use it to show the direction and type of flow.
