Different sources at different servers
Hi there!
Here is the issue. I work as a Data Analyst for a worlwide company with different divisions in different countries. Different servers, different ERPs, different structures, different everything. At the moment, I've builded a PBI report for every division that works perfectly, its able to update with the gateway, everything cool.
Now I've been asked to consolidate all of them in a single report. The issue is that the service is only able to update a report throught a single gateway, therefore I need every database in the same location to make a consolidation report that's able to update. My plan is to backup every SQL/other formats in one server and build the "big" report from these backups.
Is this logic correct? Does someone have a better idea about how to build this structure/process? I'm open to any ideas.
Hi Xavi_Mora
Your understanding is correct.
multiple enterprise gateway on one dataset
Based on my understanding, to refresh a dataset with mutiple data sources in different servers
One way is:
Import mutiple data sources as a single dataset with Power BI Desktop,
Install on-premises gateway in the server which can access to those different servers,
Add data sources under this gateway when configuring schedule refresh.
Another way is like yours:
backup every SQL/other formats in one server and build the "big" report from these backups,
or use Azure DB to store data online, then connect to this Azure DB with Power BI.

Many thanks Maggie!
I cannot make the servers see each other so I'll keep with the backups plan. It's been really helpful.
Thanks again! :D
