DAX Hands on
i am looking for some good hands on material for DAX , please suggest
I have started with these resources initially during my preparation for DAX
SQLBI - Introduction to DAX - https://www.sqlbi.com/p/introducing-dax-video-course/

For hands-on DAX learning, I’d recommend combining structured learning, practice datasets, and a lot of experimentation.
Some good resources:
- **SQLBI** – probably the strongest resource for really understanding DAX. Their articles, DAX Guide, and courses explain not only syntax, but also filter context, row context, CALCULATE, iterators, context transition, etc.
- **Goodly** – very practical Power BI and DAX content, with lots of real-world examples and problem-solving.
- **Microsoft Learn** – useful for structured exercises and guided learning paths.
- **Maven Analytics** – good for project-based learning, datasets, challenges, and building complete Power BI solutions rather than isolated formulas.
- **DAX.do** – great for quickly testing DAX expressions in the browser and experimenting with functions and evaluation context.
- **Enterprise DNA / Curbal / Guy in a Cube** – plenty of practical examples and use cases on YouTube and in their learning platforms.
- **Workout Wednesday / Power BI challenges** – excellent if you want to learn by solving actual problems rather than following tutorials.
I’d also strongly recommend using **AI tools as a learning partner**, but not just asking them to write the measure for you. Give ChatGPT/Copilot a model and a business requirement, try to write the DAX yourself, then ask it to review the measure, explain why it works, suggest alternatives, or create progressively harder exercises.
For example, you can ask AI to:
- generate DAX exercises based on a sample model,
- explain the difference between two measures,
- deliberately create a wrong measure and ask you to debug it,
- show several ways to solve the same problem,
- explain how filter context changes step by step.
The most effective way to learn DAX is still to work with a real model. Practice things like YTD/MTD, previous period, % of total, ranking, running totals, dynamic segmentation, virtual tables, and more complex filter-context scenarios.
Reading DAX helps, but breaking measures, debugging them, and rebuilding them is where the real learning happens.
