Couldn't save the settings

I am new to Power BI. I installed my Power BI Desktop app and tried to change few options in settings. Couldn't save the changes. I tried lot of things like uninstalling and reinstalling my app, but couldn't resolve the problem. I wanted to change options in DATA LOAD and REGIONAL SETTINGS under CURRENT FILE. But after changing the options I was not able to select OK, the page is blank without any changes. And I couldn't either close my app, so everytime I had to restart my PC.

  • Hi Anush98 -Here are a few steps that could help resolve the problem:

P1: Right-click on the Power BI Desktop icon and select Run as administrator. This can resolve issues related to permissions that might prevent settings from saving.

P2:C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Cache (replace [Your Username] with your username). Clear the cache Power BI Desktop

P3: Make sure you have the latest version of Power BI Desktop, as updates can resolve known issues.

You can try to repair the app:Go to Settings > Apps & Features, find Power BI Desktop, click on it, and select Advanced options. If available, click on Repair.

P4: Power BI settings are saved in a JSON file that may become corrupted.

Go to C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\Power BI Desktop Store App and delete the UserSettings.json file. Power BI will recreate this file with default settings.

Uninstall and Delete any folder in location and reinstall it using below link:

C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI DesktopReinstall Power BI Desktop from the official Power BI download page.

Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

    Hope this helps.

I actually tried doing all the above mentioned steps, but remained unsuccessfull. So I finally uninstalled the app and reinstalled the previous version. Currently I am using 32bit version for my 64bit laptop. As of now, I had no problem with the app.

Hi Anush98 - Keep an eye on any performance or feature limitations, as the 32-bit version can handle less memory and may struggle with larger datasets.
Check for Updates: Periodically check for updates to the 64-bit version, as Microsoft may address any bugs or issues in future releases.
Submit Feedback: If you haven't already, report your experience to the Power BI support team or community forums. This feedback could help identify and fix the root cause.

The 32bit version is not supporting large datasets. So, I tried installing 64bit version again, and the same problem is repeating. Unable to find a solution.
