Circular Reference - driving me mad!!!!

Here is my file - TEST.PBIX

YOu will see it is very simple.

I have a data table with 2 values in it "Labour" and "Material" and another table with "One", "Two", "Three", "Four"

I have created two very simple Tables using SUMMARIZECOLUMNS bringing in each table.  I can create a relationship between the respective tables.

The crunch!

I have created a third table based on both data tables, and when i try to creat the same relationships, I am told a circular dependancy was detetcted!

I do not understand what is causing it - probably me being stupid!

    What relationship are you creating?

And what is the error message?

so with the table Summarize (3) between the 2 columns and their respective data tables

OK, let's try again.  Which 2 columns, which data tables with which columns?

    And the full message please.

so i have attached some screenshots - here

Page 1 - shows the current relationships that work

Page 2 - the error message when i try to create a relationship between 'Summarize (3)'[Column 1] and 'Table (2)'[Column1]

Page 3 - shows the data file 'Summarize (1)'

Page 4 - shows the data file 'Summarize (2)'

Page 5 - shows the data file 'Summarize (3)'

      Does that help?

So i do not understand whu i can create the first 2 relationships, but i cannot create the last one

        Apologies for late reply.

Create your summary table in Power Query or try a DAX crossjoin

  • Circular Dependency while creating relationships, gets generated, when you use to create such calculated tables, which handles invalid relationships by introducing a "Blank"  like VALUES() function.
Check out this  Post where you will get to know, how a use of CALCULATE() in calculated columns, or above calculated tables, can create circular dependency and the solution for the same.
