Changing data source connection

I am doing migration work that requires changing a dataset connection from one SQL Server to another.

When I go to trasnfomr data and data sourec settings I see this (Below)

Can anyone heLp please?

  • Hi! To swap from one semantic model to another you need to make sure you have access to the new one. When you click Datasource settings in Transform Data the window that opens shows all of the models that you have access to connect to. If you do not see it listed you need to request the correct access. Once you see the semantic model that you want to change to available, simply click on it and click Connect.

    Hi Anonymous

Try the following actions to change the dataset connection in SQL Server. This process involves modifying the connection details in Power BI's Power Query editor:

In Power BI Desktop, navigate to the "Home" tab and select "Transform Data" to open the Power Query Editor.

In the Power Query Editor, find the query that connects to your SQL Server. The first step, usually named "Source", contains the connection details. Click on the gear icon next to the "Source" step to open the settings.

In the Settings window, you can change the server name and database name to point to the new SQL Server.

After updating the connection details, click OK to close the settings window and then click Close and Apply in the Power Query editor to apply the changes to the Power BI model.

    HI,

Thanks but it is connected via a live semantic model so I cannot access the tranformation steps.

I may be wrong when I said its a SQL Server connection but we use Microsoft Anaklysis Services compones to do data modelling and use power bi just for teh reproting.

    Thanks
