Category in Correlation Coefficient
Hi,
I'm trying to use the Correlation Coefficient quick measure but I'm struggling a little with the field Category that PowerBI forces me to use. I've used a few fields that could be applicable, and all of them give different results. Would you guys be able to explain what this Category is supposed to be, or where is this already explained in some example?
Many thanks
Hi JurajSiska,
I think you could choose corresponding category which you want to use, I find that the measure X and measure Y will calculate based on category(it will calculates the Pearson correlation coefficient between two measures within the category), so when your category change, your final result will be different
You could refer to Correlation coefficient for details.

Hi Zoe,
many thanks for your answer. I might still be missing the point though (sorry). Let's put the context to what I'm trying to do.
I have marketing and sales data that span over multiple fiscal quarters and multiple countries. I then have 2 measures among which I want to see the correlation coefficient. Now, what is the correlation coefficient telling me if I choose fiscal quarter as a category vs. if I choose country?
Many thanks,

Hi JurajSiska,
Based on logic, correlation coefficient will calculate the relative relationship between the two measures based on current category. When you choose quarter and country, I think two measures are different, so their correlation coefficient are different. You could try this in your sample.

I found an example that doesn't require the use of a category
