Ask for advice - comparation visual
Hi,
our management wants to see in power bi report on one page different items for chosen period:
- reality
- plan
- reality of previous month
- reality of the same month in previous year
And also differences in %.
I did it as an table, items in rows, values of reality, plan etc in columns. But I don't like it. It is so excel-like and accounting-like view.
Can anyone advice me some good looking graphical solution that would tell the same story but in a more interesting way?
Many thanks,
Vašek

Sounds like a line chart would be the perfect vehicle to tell your story.
something like this
Can you provide sample data?

Hi,
thanks for reply. The current visual looks like that:
Columns from left to right: category, selected period, target, last month, last year (same month), diff to target, diff to last month, diff to last year. There is a slicer on the page where the user can choose the period (a month or a ytd). So these information the management wants but I would like to present it in more visual way.

Sorry for the late response.
Here are Power BI visual alternatives that can tell the same story in a much more compelling way:1. Small Multiples Column/Bar Charts
It quickly shows how each item is doing in a compact, consistent layout.https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-small-multiples
2.Diverging Bar Chart for % DifferencesUse When: You want to emphasize variance from plan or previous values.
It instantly communicates over- or under-performance with visual clarity.
3. KPI Cards with Trend Indicators-Use when you want a high-level summary per item.
Its clean, executive-friendly snapshot.4. Bullet Charts
Use when you want to show Actual vs Plan vs Benchmarks.
It shows multiple reference points compactly. You can refer this link for more detailed description-
