Adding a field to a matrix tooltip

Hi,

I would like to add a column to a matrix tooltip and i have used a table visual to do this and it works fine however i don't need the table header in the tooltip and would prefer to use a card visual to simply show the column value in the tooltip. However when i try this, nothing shows and i get a blank cell. The card visual also disappears from my report page tooltip.

Can anyone please advise if using the card visual can be used to show the column name in a tooltip or does it have to be a table ?

    Hi Scott,

     

    You should be able to use a Card visual in a report-page tooltip to display a single value, so it does not necessarily have to be a table.

     

    I would suggest checking the following:

     

    1. **Use a measure:** Create a measure to return the required column value in the current filter context.

    2. **Check filter context:** Ensure the matrix row or column context is being passed correctly to the tooltip page.

    3. **Tooltip configuration:** Confirm that the tooltip page has the appropriate page size set to Tooltip and that the Card visual is not hidden.

    4. **Data type and aggregation:** If you are using a text column, consider using SELECTEDVALUE() to return the value when a single value is in context.

     

    For example:

     

    ```DAX

    Tooltip Value =

    SELECTEDVALUE('YourTable'[YourColumn], "Multiple or no values")

    ```

     

    Add this measure to the Card visual and test it by hovering over different matrix rows.

     

    One question: Is the column you want to display a text field or a numeric field?

     

    That will help determine the best DAX approach.

    Thanks for your response. When i set up a report page tooltip and insert the card and then the column, upon leaving that page, both the card and the column disappear. I have six different sets of tooltip wording that i need to display depending on the matrix cell so i don't think the card is an option. I have also tried putting a measure in the card as follows : Measure = SELECTEDVALUE ([tooltip wording], "") however this does not work either.

      Could you please share a screenshot? Also, are the matrix columns generated from individual measures or from the values of a dimension?

      If it's the former, keep in mind that measures don't have row context, so the matrix may not know which measure column is being hovered over.

    Hey, I'm not sure I fully understand the issue. Could you upload a PBIX file?

    What exactly do you mean by "The card visual also disappears from my report page tooltip"? Do you mean that the Card visual itself disappears, leaving the tooltip page empty?

    Also, when you use a Table visual in the tooltip, how many values are displayed? Keep in mind that a Card visual can only display a single value.
