Active Directory data source - Only distribution groups

I'm trying to use Active Directory as a datasource, to show the current ad-groups and the groupmembers. The connection works, but I only get to see the AD distribution groups while I would like to gain insight into the AD security groups. Not sure if it is a rights issue. How do I ensure that I see the security groups in addition to the distribution groups?
