Lights, Camera, Insight asks a simple question with no simple answer: what makes a movie successful?
Across five connected pages, the report explores success through box office performance, performance against production budget, audience ratings and country. The story shows why the biggest earner, the film that stretched its budget furthest and the audience favourite are rarely the same movie. It also explains why box-office revenue cannot be treated as profit and why audience scores mean more when supported by more votes.
The analysis began with almost 1.5 million movie records. Each question uses only films with enough dependable information to answer it fairly, while clearly showing what is missing, excluded or uncertain. The final page reveals how the data was narrowed and why large productions are represented far more often than smaller films.
Built in Power BI using TMDB movie data distributed through Kaggle, the report combines guided storytelling with interactive comparisons. Change the question, and the winner changes.
